Is applying technical ingenuity to meet challenges and narrate imminents enough? or is it a utopian dystopia?

In most instances, humanity’s most imminent challenges have traditionally been of a theoretical and moral nature. We’re all familiar with ‘thoughts experiments’, which requires us to consider the unfortunate consequences of our actions. Science fiction has been of great help here, too, providing creative philosophical prompts of what could be if we embrace transformational technologies, such as the techno-paradox of complete annellation of mankind, or an Earth-like planet that is inaccessible to ‘visitors’.

Such preconceived distend assists society in defining how we invent for the future. I believe ‘our’ science fiction narratives begin not with the pursuit of individual rights…

Why SpaceX’s mission is to export human civilization.

There is a rapidly growing arms race among global superpowers in weaponizing earth’s orbit, and this militarization of space could unequivocally become detrimental to international peace and security. For example, Unmanned Space Vehicles (USVs) for surveillance and reconnaissance will not only be used as ‘guardsmen’ of space commercialization or as ‘stormtroopers’ of space industrialization, but even weaponized, eventually, to operate as any other traditional weapons system, and with expansive reach.

There is a latin quote that states; ‘sivis pacem, para bellum’, or in other words; ‘if you want peace, you must prepare for war’. It is therefore seemingly opportune that…

A philosophical scenario of neural implants.

The malcontent surrounding the possible biohacking of ‘brain computer interfaces’ once such a frontier technology has fully been developed for commercial use is unquestionable and seemingly authentic. The predominant question is how will our dependency on neural implants affect our rationality as free thinkers?

Just as cryptography is a powerful tool to protect our privacy, so too could neural implants be put to nefarious use, propelling us to a point of complete artificial intelligence and thus an AI-dominated society, in a sense ‘hacking’ our brains and losing our comprehension along the way.

Speculation is certainly rife about how such a…

An analogy of ‘deepfakes’.

The disinformation campaigns that may occur with the emergence of synthetic media or ‘deepfakes’ could augment the era of ‘fake news’. With the employment of deepfakes technology, false or altered video and audio clips could be used to smear people, denigrate the media, deny people the right to representation or provide misleading information.

Without effective checks and balances, society will not be able to tell, for example, when a distorted video clip is produced and when it is actually legitimate. …

Why automation could soon become a two-edged sword.

Autonomous systems are being systematically developed, commercialized and deployed to make life-altering decisions on behalf of individuals and businesses which will enhance the ability of human workers to perform tasks that are usually dangerous, costly or impossible for them to undertake or complete.

We are already well along the path.

This shift promises to create unprecedented new opportunities and challenges alike. Autonomous systems could be employed to address the needs of millions of people in countless industries and communities worldwide.

Yet they also raise critical questions that go to the heart of who we are as human beings, such as:

Exploring concepts of inclusive interconnectivity.

There is an increasing demand for reaching global consensus on how to effectively tap into the immense potentials IoT (or the Internet-of-Things) can deliver, allowing for solutions to scale beyond today’s functionalities and create a more holistic, inclusive and intelligent society.

The demand is firmly rooted in recognizing the need to go further passed connectivity, operational applications and economic productivity, and to address issues of socio-economic inclusion and equity. It also recognizes the scale of the opportunities that can be unlocked by combining IoT and digitalization with transformative innovation.

It is a pertinent reminder that our impact on the wider…

Elaborating potential impacts of emerging technologies to our way of life.

It is needless to say that emerging technologies have begun gaining prominence in shaping solutions to future problems and as I seek to understand the reasoning behind such developments including their subsequent applications and potential impacts to our way of life, it becomes imperative to define their ‘future potentials’ as many advanced technological developments have been labelled.

Herein, I define potential as a condition of the future.

The critical question, then, is to differentiate between potential and actuality, or likelihood of delivery; by defining the sort of changes being envisioned and how they would impact our day-to-day lives, such as…

Applying exponential thinking to goal-setting.

Exponential thinking as an ever-evolving mindset to adapt to an ever-changing world has proven impactful in shaping not only technology advancements and core components in the digital transformation journey, but which also enhances humanity’s ability to innovate at scale and to go beyond the surface and reveal new and improved methods of engaging with different ways of doing things.

Bill Gates argues that many companies are now using exponential methods of computer-algorithm analysis to drastically cut down costs.

Scott Case has developed a new term in the human resources development field, called “Innovation Management”, which he uses to further explain…
